Study Abroad at TMU

The Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students (The Honors Scholarship)

The Honors Scholarship has three categories:

○ General Category

This category is for new and current students who do not have reservations. The number of slots for the general category fluctuates every year depending on factors such as the number of international students enrolled at TMU. TMU conducts recruitment for the Honors Scholarship (general category) when students preregister for scholarship applications.

○ Grant Reservation Category

This category is for students who have achieved excellent scores on the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students and completed the procedures prescribed by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).

○ Prearrival Admission System Reservation Category

This system is for determining which privately financed international students scheduled to enroll using the prearrival admission system will receive reservations for the Honors Scholarship. Recruitment is done through the respective departments, with the rankings determined based on TMU’s university recommendation standards for government scholarships.

■ Preparations

You must have a Japan Post Bank account to receive the Honors Scholarship grant, so please open an account when applying for the scholarship. You must also have a valid residence card that clearly shows your status is “student.”
