The Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students （The Honors Scholarship）

①EJU Reservation Holder / Reservation Holder enrolled in Japanese language schools
JASSO sponsors a reservation program for privately financed international students who achieve a superior score on the EJU, and enroll as regular students in a university undergraduate school, a junior college, college of technology (3rd year or above), or a professional training college in Japan.

②Pre-arrival Admission Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students
This is awarded to privately-financed international students with excellent academic and character records who have received pre-arrival admission in a graduate school, undergraduate school, junior college, college of technology (3rd year or above) or specialized course in a specialized training college in Japan and are facing financial difficulties. The objectives of the reservation program are to contribute to ease their financial concerns about arrival and studies in Japan, promote pre-arrival admission and improve the level of learning. This is a program through which international students can directly apply for admission from overseas. Selection is carried out and permission for admission is granted to the candidates without requiring them to come to Japan even once before enrollment.

There are four types of Special Categories, and as of June 2026, only one type - the “Employment Support Special Category” - is allocated to TMU. Eligible applicants are enrolled in a regular program at an university allocated the “Employment Support Special Category”, are in their final year or the year prior to graduation / completion, and intend to seek employment in Japan after graduating or completing their current program. Even if they have exceeded the standard period of study, they may be recommended as long as they remain enrolled in a regular program.
Note: Non-degree (bekka) students and research students are not eligible.

■Applications for “The Honors Scholarship”
Applications for “The Honors Scholarship” are accepted during the period of “Pre-Registration” for scholarships application.

To receive this scholarship, you must have a Japan Post Bank (Yucho Bank) account, so please open an account at the time of application.

The residence card must be valid and must clearly state the status of residence as “Student.” Applicants must have a grade evaluation coefficient of 2.30 or higher (out of a maximum of 3.00) for the previous academic year.
